Mission

The Gujarat State Animal Welfare Board is an advisory board for implementing, at the State level, the animal welfare and prevention of cruelty to animals’ laws as per the judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Writ Petition No. 440/2000, D.O. No. 2090/2000 PIL (Writ), dated 20/09/2008, in the case of Miss Geeta Sheshmani V/s Union of India and Others. It provides advice to the State Government and local authorities for reducing unnecessary pain and suffering to animals.

Objectives

  • To ensure effective implementation of the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 at the grassroots level in the State.
  • To encourage and provide support to the animal welfare activities undertaken by the District Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) established in the State
  • To implement in the State, the guidelines/instructions issued by the Animal Welfare Board of India constituted by the Government of India under Section No. 4 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
